So as promised here is the tutorial on how to make your own distressed jeans.
Step 1- Find a pair of old jeans that you feel comfortable destroying. Get a pair of scissors, and something with a pointy end to shred the threads on the jeans.
Step 2- Decide on where you want to cut the jeans to make them shorter. You can skip this step entirely if you want to keep the original length. I cut them because they were not long enough on me, but not short enough either where they just looked awkward. To make sure both sides are equal I cut one leg and folded it on top of the other to create myself a guideline of where to cut the second one.
Step 3- Use your scissors to cut holes in your jeans where ever it is that you think you want to shred them. I chose to do it on my thighs and a bit lower underneath the knees. Once you cut a hole, use either a nail file, or anything with a pointy end to loosen the strands and stitches above and under the cut. This will create a cool shredded effect.
Step 4- If you want to create an even more distressed effect, find a rough rock or sand paper and just go over the areas that you want to distress. To create holes with the sand paper in the jeans you can place a something with a hard surface underneath where you want to sand it and the friction will enable you to create the holes. This creates a really nice look.
Step 5- Once you are satisfied with the distressing that you have done, make sure to throw you jeans in the wash, this will tear it up even more and give the finihsing touches.
* Remeber do not go over board with the distressing before you put it into the wash because it can fall apart.
And voila, you have created your very own distressed looking jeans!
